RGA Fridays workshops at Maiden Erlegh are for everyone and all skills levels to enjoy . Members £6 , guests £7, new members welcome. It's a great opportunity to meet friends, get to know artists, and learn new skills.

Start Time & How to find us
Time        We open at 6:45pm, the session starts promptly at 7:00 and ends at 9:30. Tea and coffee are provided during the break for a 50p contribution.
Rooms    The Studio and all ‘C’ rooms are in the New Art Block. M2 and M4 are in the Maths block (Lower School on map).
Address  Maiden Erlegh School, Silverdale Road, Earley, RG6 7HS.

Maiden Erlegh Spring Sessions 2012

13 Jan

City and Landscape Collage with Kaz French. You can work on a combination of the two or choose a single theme. Please bring: a base material, either a heavy duty cardboard or canvas, glue (paper and textile), scissors, a variety of materials, ranging from different types of paper, fabric, string, leather,corrugated papers, news paper and magazines. Also, paints - acrylics or water colour and brushes or colouring pens, pencils, coloured ink.

27 Jan Drypoint on the Press with Karen Carter. Explore the simple but effective process of drypoint printing using perspex plates and a professional etching press. Bring A6 sketch. All materials procided for £2.
10 Feb

A lively approach to Landscape in Pastels with Kevin Scully. Bring pastel pencil for drawing, soft pastels, A2 drawing board and 4 sheets pastel paper. A few watercolours (Raw Umber, Payne's Grey, Burnt Sienna, Ultramarine, or similar colours), palette and brushes. Subject matter refererence provided.

24 Feb Face to Face - with Jenny Halstead. Bring own choice of dry medium, board, paper and a HAT !

9 Mar

Light, Shadow and Body Sculpture with Julia Rogers. Bring a variety of media, both wet and dry and be prepared to experiment. Additional £2 charge for model.

23 Mar

Picture Making - with RGA Council members. A look at the impact of composition and tone. Please bring two pieces of work, if you would like them to be assessed. Experienced members will suggest ways you could develop your work.

20 Apr M2 in Maths block

AGM followed by: Talk by Marie Sudwell: 'Czech Cubism'. Wine and light refreshments. Think cubism think Picasso? 100 years ago it was the lifestyle of Prague, where buildings were designed by cubist architects and decorated by cubist art and furniture and only ended by World War 1

21 Apr Sketching in the Harris Garden, in the University of Reading, 2.00-4.30 pm. Demonstration by Richard Cave on watercolour sky techniques. Meet at the Harris Garden entrance Gate just before 2pm.You are invited to tea afterwards at Jenny Halstead's home which is close by at 85 Christchurch Road
   

 

Earley Painters' Workshops at Maiden Place Community Centre beginning 10 Jan 2012, then alternate Tuesdays.

Untutored sessions. Workshop projects are often generated by attending members on a rotation basis. £4 for each 3 hour session, 1-4pm. Newcomers welcome.

Please bring your choice of materials. Tables, chairs, hot water & cups are provided.

Maiden Place Community Centre, Lower Earley RG6 3EH. From Rushey Way take Kilnsea Drive, turn into Maiden Place - bear right toward Community Centre and car parks. Function Room is on the ground floor.

Printing Session. Another chance to try a variety of printing techniques. Manglepress will be available. Bring extra £1 for materials.

24 Jan

Abstract influenced by Mondrian. Bring scalpel/Stanley knife, large cutting board, thin tracing paper, Pritt stick or paper glue, pencils and scissors, any A4 sheets of brightly coloured paper - thin is best. 50p for tutor expenses.

7 Feb Gerhart Richter. Looking at his abstract work. Bring acrylics and car window squeejee cleaner or old credit card.                           
21 Feb

Primavera. All things spring. Painting from display with Spring music. Any medium..

6 Mar

Words and letters. Lettering in art and illustration, inclusion of print in art. Bring ink, watercolour, print and collage materials.

20 Mar

Barbara Rae. Bring landscape photos, choice of media.

3 Apr

Watercolour and line. Turner's experiments - on at Tate Britain until 21st April. Bring watercolour, pens, ink, pencils.  

17 Apr

Yayoi Kasuma. Visual illusion (Exhibition Tate Modern). Any medium.

1 May

Lucio Fontana. Using slashes and holes in work, revealing layers. Coloured paper, acrylics.

15 May

Romantics. Looking at the work of the Pre-Raphaelites. Clothed model. Any media.

29 May

Display. Busts and figures. Any media.

5 May Sue Ryder Hospice, Nettlebed, RG9 5DF. Extensive grounds, spring flowers, rhododendrons. Views of surrounding farmland and buildings. Donations £3 to the Hospice.
Wed 16 May 10am-2pm Old Cemetery, Cemetery Junction, A4/Wokingham Road, Reading. FREE. Free p[parking in large turnaround area on site. entrance through archway. Please note there is no loo on site. Cafes near main gate.
Sat 26 May Shalford Farm House, Aldermaston, RG7 4NB. grid ref 569648. Invited by Alan Caiger Smith. The house, which dates from 15th century, has 3.5 acre grounds by river Enborne, an orchard, free-range bantams and packhorse bridge. RGA can use summer house and barns and paint from groundfloor windows if weather wet. Donations £3 to Sightsavers
