EARLEY PAINTERS

Earley Painters' Workshops at Maiden Place Community Centre are held on alternate Tuesdays.

The sessions are untutored. Please note that the topic order may be subject to change, as the sessions are run on a voluntary basis.

£4 for each 3-hour session, 13:00 - 16:00. Newcomers are welcome.


Maiden Place Community Centre, Lower Earley RG6 3EH.
Directions: from Rushey Way take Kilnsea Drive, turn into Maiden Place and bear right toward Community Centre and car parks. The Function Room is on the ground floor.

Bring your own choice of materials; all safe mediums may be used at our sessions, but if in doubt please check first. Bring your own refreshments.

Looking at transparency. Some areas of her work are mysterious and floaty. How does she achieve this effect and is it a technique that would help my work?

"ON THE ROAD TO…" Any medium (Richard Diebenkorn, Kurt Schwitters, Hunderwaisser)
Looking at old map forms plus celestial maps etc. to develop an image.

WORK ON RGA ANNUAL EXHIBITION THEME "SPRING GREENS"
A display will be created on this theme.

4 Mar

"ALL IN A LINE" Any medium (Morandi and others)
Working with a line of pots either paint as seen or create an abstract using the shapes and spaces between the pots, or try both!

18 Mar

"DARK AROUND THE EDGES" Any media (F. Leger and others)
Follow by example. Bold outlines in Black & White

1 Apr

"ITALIAN GARDENS" Any medium.
Working from the themes of balustrades, statues and plants, to create a garden scene.

15 Apr

"LAYER IT UP" Printing plus overprinting plus collage (Rauschenberg and others)
Using ready-made blocks and found objects to print from, photographs etc. to build up an unusual assembled image.

29 Apr

"READY TO GO" Any medium
Looking down into a partially packed bag, suitcase or picnic hamper.

13 May

"SWEET SURPRISE" Collage, pastels and crayons (Tom Wesselman, Jane Hall, Joel Penkman)
Looking at sweets, biscuits, chocolates, lollies, etc. on a large scale.

 

Following on from the "Blue Squares Exhibition", the Earley Painters had another small exhibition at Woodley Library during February 2014 under the heading “REDS”.

 

A display of predominantly blue squares, put together to showcase the artistic skills of the Earley Painters Group. Some of the techniques and mediums represented by the squares include acrylic and watercolour painting, oil and chalk pastels, collage, mono-printing and mixed media.

 

The works shown were started and completed in a 3-hour RGA Earley Painters' session.
